Deconstruction of a Contents Page NME

Feature
Description
Masthead??
  • How is it positioned?
  • Font Style?
  • Colour
  • Where on page is it positioned?
The masthead is placed at the top of the page in the middle; normally they are placed at the top left hand side and kept there, as that’s where people start reading from. But NME is all about being new and different so maybe that is why they have done it.
Necessary Information??
  • Date?
  • Issue Number?
  • Page number?
  • Where are they positioned?
  • Website info? Links?
Just below the headline at the top of the page the date of the issue is there and is clear to the reader. The issue number is not on the contents page because it is normally on the front cover. Next to all the images on the page is the page number directing you to the page the image article is? There is no website info or links on the contents page.
Text??
  • What is it?
  • Form of address?
  • How much text?
  • What is its purpose?
  • Subheadings?
  • Order?
  • Layout?
  • Use of numerical features?
The text within this contents page all are within the boxes and they just explain the stories and the images within.  Within the boxes there is not much text just a sentence or two explaining the image and the article.  The subheadings are below the majority of headings. The purpose of this is to explain the images and what the article will be about.
Font??
  • What font is used?
  • Are there different font styles?
  • Why is this?
  • Colour?
  • Are italics used? Where? How?
  • Bold text?
Below the images is the text, and for the quotes the entire font is in italic, the reason for this is so that all the quotes will stand out from the rest of the page. The subheadings are all in bold and normal, modern fort. The subheading font is in bold and the reason for this is that it gives a variety to the page. The colour scheme for the font is black, to keep the contents page plain and simple so it is easy for the readers to know where to find the articles they want to read.
Images??
  • How many?
  • What size?
  • What are they of?
  • Are the images anchored? (i.e. by a caption?)
  • Is there writing over any of the images?
  • Positioning of images?
There are seven images on the contents page and each of these images are images of the artist and each are the sizes are completely different sizes. The picture size depends on how big the article is, the bigger the article the bigger the picture, and vice versa. The writing is not over any of the images and the reason for this is that people will want to see all of the image and there is enough room for the writing to go below the image. The images are based right in the middle, one either side of this main image. And one of the bottom left hand side. The bottom right hand side is taken up by a advert which is promoting the annual subscription.
Colour??
  • How many colours are used for text?
  • Colours of images?
  • Effect of colours?
For the text there is only one colour used and this is black, the effect this has is that it makes the contents page appear to be formal and easy to understand. The colour of the images is bright and also dull. Depending on the final image itself and the type of music genre that they are.
