Deconstruction of Contents Page Q Magazine

Feature
Description
Masthead??
  • How is it positioned?
  • Font Style?
  • Colour
  • Where on page is it positioned?
The masthead like all mastheads is placed right at the top of the page; although it is small you still know where to find it, and its eye catching. The font style is bold, tall and in black colouring. It’s black next to the logo of Q so it stands out.
Necessary Information??
  • Date?
  • Issue Number?
  • Page number?
  • Where are they positioned?
  • Website info? Links?
The issue date is not on the contents page so from this I presume that the date will be on the front cover next to the barcode and/or the price. The issue number is in a red circle and is underlined and placed below the slogan of the magazine. The page numbers are placed next to each article, in white font in a square red box, the reason for the is that it will stand out to the reader so they know where they are looking to find the article they want to read.
Text??
  • What is it?
  • Form of address?
  • How much text?
  • What is its purpose?
  • Subheadings?
  • Order?
  • Layout?
  • Use of numerical features?
The text within this contents page all are within the boxes and they just explain the stories and the images within. The purpose of the text her is to simply explain the images and the headings and what the whole article is going to be about. The subheadings are placed blow all the headings. The order and layout of the text is placed on the left hand side and there is no text on the right hand side. The number are
Font??
  • What font is used?
  • Are there different font styles?
  • Why is this?
  • Colour?
  • Are italics used? Where? How?
  • Bold text?

The font used for the contents page, headings and slogan are all in capital letters, the reason for this maybe is that this is important part of the page, Q have consistently used this throughout the contents pages. So this compared to the subheadings are not in capital letter and are in a smaller font. And in the main article they use read font which they only use for the main article.  The number are always placed on the bottom of the image.
Images??
  • How many?
  • What size?
  • What are they of?
  • Are the images anchored? (i.e. by a caption?)
  • Is there writing over any of the images?
  • Positioning of images?
There are four images on the page. Three of them basically take up the full right hand side of the page. The main picture doe not have any headings or subheadings on, as well as this the picture is very dramatic, it is a extreme close up with blood dripping down her face, the effect this has is that this makes the reader want to read on. I would say that this contents page is probably image led. The sizes of the pictures are not all the same, although three out of four are the same size.
Colour??
  • How many colours are used for text?
  • Colours of images?
  • Effect of colours?

There are only two colours used for the text, red and black, the effect of this is that the red text stands out from the rest of the text, therefore Q have done this for a reason, they want there readers to read this first. The colour of the images differentiates on what picture and what the type of story it is. For instance the image about Lana Del Rey will be serious as they are quite bold colours, the colours of her pale face and the blood streaming down her face. On the other hand there is a photo of Professor Green what looks to be a bright room and him in casual clothes and what I would say is normal colours, nothing that stands out. A plain and simple photo with simple colours.
